  • When designing and building, is interesting to know the different needs and aspects which will ease lives of those we are designing for. Know how each person interacts with the environment depending on their capabilities, and in which way the environment would be able to provide better conditions to develop their activities, is an enriching process which results in spaces shared by everyone but adapted to each need and personal condition.

Against this background emerged DeafSpace Project at Gallaudet University. This is an educational institution for deaf people in United States, so they wear pretty aware of the special needs of deaf people like the needed space to sign adequately, the necessary visual interaction to communicate and interact with other people and the space, or the necessary luminance and visual information to be aware of all what is hapenning around. These considerations may modify the way of designing spaces when taking in consideration all this aspects, that undoubtedly will not only benefit deaf people or with hearing impairments, but all of us.
